movie

I took a movie class last semester, and movies have become one of my favorite pastimes. I especially like one of the movies I saw in my class. I would like to share that with you. "In The Mood For Love" is a Hong Kong movie.

The setting is Hong Kong 1962 where Chau, the editor of a local newspaper, moves with his wife to a Shanghai community. He soon meets Li-chun, a married woman who lives in the same building, and because their spouses are often away from the home, the two spend more and more time together. The pair become great friends, but one day find out the awful truth that their partners are having an affair.

Starring Tony Leung Chiu-wai, Maggie Cheung, Rebecca Pan, Lai Chun, Siu Ping-Lam, Chin Chi-Ang

Director(s) Wong Kar-Wai

Screenwriter(s) Wong Kar-Wai

cooking

My other favorite pastime is cooking. I am a good Chinese cook. The most delicious dish I cook is
STIR-FRIED LOBSTER WITH GINGER AND SCALLION SAUCE. It is just so delicious. do you want to know the recipe?

Amount Measure Ingredient -- Preparation Method -------- ------------ -----------------

1 1/2 lb Cooked Lobster             Scallions and Spring Onions

2 tb Oil                                           1 Beaten Eggs

4 Minced Garlic Cloves               1 t Freshly Ground Peppercorns

2 tb Sliced Fresh Ginger             2 tb Oyster Sauce

1/4 c Sliced Green Jalapeno      1 tb Fish Sauce (Nam Pla)

Peppers                                       1/2 c Chopped Green Onions

The lobster in the southern part of Thailand is considered a large shrimp and is therefore called goong mang-gorn - dragon shrimp.

Scrub the lobster clean and separate into large 2-inch pieces. Cut the tail into individual sections. Heat a large skillet on high and add the oil. Add all the remaining ingredients except the lobster and stir-fry for 30 seconds. Add the lobster pieces to the skillet, cover, and steam on medium-high heat for 2 more minutes. Remove to a platter and serve.

poems

This semester my writing teacher brings me a lot poems. I didn't know that poems can use just some simple words but express big ideas. Here I would like to share some of them with you.

ANYWAY

People are unreasonable, illogical, and self-centered,

                        LOVE THEN ANYWAY

If you do good, people will accuse you of

                        selfish, ulterior motives,

                         DO GOOD ANYWAY

                          If you are successful,

you win false friends and true enemies,

                          SUCCEED ANYWAY

Honesty and frankness make you vulnerable,

                 BE HONEST AND FRANK ANYWAY

What you spent years building may be

                         destroyed overnight,

                             BUILD ANYWAY

                      People really need help

but may attack you if you help them,

                 HELP PEOPLE ANYWAY

Give the world the best you have

and you'll get kicked in the teeth,

GIVE THE WORLD THE BEST YOU'VE GOT ANYWAY.

FREE

  We live free

Air is free, clouds are free

  Valleys and hills are free

  Rain and mud are free

  The outside of cars

  The entrances of cinemas

And the shop windows are free

  Bread and cheese cost money

  But stale water is free

Freedom can cost your head B

  But prison is free

  We live free

RICHARD CORY

  Whenever Richard Cory went downtown,

  We people on the pavement looked at him;

He was a gentleman from sole to crown,

  Clean favored, and imperially slim.

And he was always quietly arrayed,

  And he was always human when talked;

But still he fluttered pulses when he said,

Good -morning," and he glittered when he walked.

And he was rich-- yes, richer than a king--

And admirably schooled in every grace:

In fine, we thought that he was everything

To make us wish that we were in his place.

So on we worked, and waited for the light,

  And went without the meat, and cursed the bread;

And Richard Cory, one calm summer night,

Went home and put a bullet through his head.
